John Deere Combine Simulator

October, 2005

In my second year of graduate school at ISU, I worked with 3 other grad students to design and build a large-scale combine simulator for John Deere.  We installed the simulator at the center of John Deere’s exhibit space at the 2005 “Agritechnica” Agricultural Trade Show in Hannover Germany.

I was responsible for modeling both the wheat header (the harvesting device that attaches to the front of a combine), and the wheat field itself.  I planned a wheat distribution method around several basic density equations that made it easy for us to quickly configure a large number of natural wheat fields.
